Small Ships Mod adds a small fleet of vessels, each inspired by a real historical ship. They are not just bigger boats: each one handles differently and suits a different stage of your world. Here is what each ship is good at and how to choose.
The cog is a single-masted medieval trading ship with a square sail. It is the natural first build: compact, steady and able to carry passengers and some cargo. If you want to explore coastlines, reach nearby islands and ferry friends around, start here.
The brigg is the largest sailing ship in the mod, with two masts and much more room on deck. Build it when your world grows and you need longer voyages, bigger storage and, in versions that include them, a platform for cannons.
The galley is driven by oars, so it does not depend only on its sail. It turns tightly and copes well in rivers, bays and crowded harbours where a sailing ship struggles. Think of it as the reliable workhorse for short trips.
The drakkar is a Viking longship with both a sail and oars. It is long, quick in a straight line and looks the part for Norse-themed builds and coastal raids.
| Ship | Moves by | Relative size | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cog | Sail | Small | First ship, exploring, light cargo |
| Brigg | Sail | Large | Long voyages, big cargo, combat |
| Galley | Oars | Medium | Rivers, harbours, tight turns |
| Drakkar | Sail and oars | Long | Fast raids, Viking builds |
For most survival worlds the order is simple: a cog to start exploring, a galley if you live near rivers, and a brigg once you have a harbour and a reason to move large amounts of cargo. Build a drakkar whenever it suits your style; it is as much about looks as function.
